We Have not Fixed Petrol Price’ – Dangote Refutes N600/litre Marketers’ Projection
The Dangote Group has debunked report that Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), popularly known as petrol from its refinery, will likely sell for N600/litre.
A report by a national daily had said that Independent Petroleum Marketers are hoping that the company’s petrol would sell between N600 or N650/litre when it is released, as the company plans to launch into the local market this month.
According to the report, the marketers under the aegis of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) believe that the Dangote refinery would crash the price of petrol as it did with diesel.
It would be recalled that diesel price crashed from about N1,900/litre to a N1,000, and later stabilized at N1,200/litre when Dangote Refinery began refining production in the first quarter of this year.
But in a statement on Tuesday by the Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer, Anthony Chiejina, the company said that IPMAN is not yet its partner, adding that it has not had any discussion with the association as regards pricing.
“Our attention has been drawn to headlines announcing “Marketers Project N600/litre for Dangote Petrol” published in Punch Newspapers of Tuesday August 13,2024,” the company said.
“We would like to clarify that Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) is not our business partner yet. We have never discussed price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) with them, and they have no mandate or authority to speak for us, either for good or with hidden transcript.
“We urge the public to desist from such speculative announcements. We have our official channels through which we make our views known to our stakeholders.”
