TotalEnergies Wins IOC of the Year at SAIPEC 2025, Showcases Local Content Achievements
TotalEnergies has been recognized as the International Oil Company of the Year at the 9th Sub-Saharan Africa International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (SAIPEC) 2025. The award, a testament to the company’s exceptional contributions to energy development in Nigeria and Africa, was presented at the SAIPEC 2025 Dinner and Awards Ceremony held at Eko Hotel, Lagos, on Wednesday, February 12.
TotalEnergies’ Local Content Initiatives Take Center Stage
Beyond its award recognition, TotalEnergies’ local content strides became a highlight of SAIPEC 2025. Representing the company at the Local Content Private Sector panel session, Mr. Cyprian Ojum, Deputy General Manager, Nigerian Content, emphasized TotalEnergies’ pioneering efforts in local capacity development.
Ojum received repeated applause as he detailed the company’s foresight in establishing the Institute of Petroleum and Energy Studies (IPES) in 2003, which has since produced 705 world-class graduates. He also showcased TotalEnergies’ remarkable achievements, including:
- Nigerian content in major projects such as O.U.R, OML 58 Upgrade, NOPL, and Egina Field Development.
- Plastic recycling initiatives in Port Harcourt, reinforcing the company’s commitment to sustainability.
- Achieving zero routine flaring across all company-operated sites.
Explaining why TotalEnergies transitioned its identity long before others embraced the concept of “energies,” Ojum stated:
“Sustainability is at the heart of our business. Graduates from IPES are world-class; they integrate seamlessly into the oil and gas industry from day one.”
He further emphasized TotalEnergies’ unwavering commitment to Nigeria’s energy sector, even during challenging investment periods, a decision now yielding significant results.

The panel session featured key industry leaders, including:

The session was moderated by Obi Uzu, Vice Chairman, Petroleum Technology Association of Nigeria (PETAN) and Managing Director, Global Process and Pipeline Services.
