TotalEnergies Stresses Efficiency and Collaboration for Africa’s Energy Growth

TotalEnergies E&P Nigeria Limited has reiterated the critical role of efficiency and collaboration in keeping Nigeria’s energy industry competitive and appealing to investors. Speaking at the Sub-Saharan Africa International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference in Lagos, Engr. Victor Bandele, Deputy Managing Director of TotalEnergies’ Deepwater Assets, emphasized the need for a conducive investment environment to sustain growth in the sector.

The session, themed “Driving Africa’s Energy,” examined how African International Oil Companies (IOCs) and independent firms are navigating industry complexities. Experts shared insights on strategic development and portfolio management in the oil and gas sector, aligning with the broader conference theme, “Building Africa’s Future: Advancing Local Content and Sustainable Development in the Oil and Gas Industry.”

Bandele expressed optimism about the continued relevance of oil and gas in Africa’s development but noted the increasing competition for investments. He urged Nigeria to prioritize ongoing projects to maintain its attractiveness as an investment hub.

“There’s a lot of competition going on worldwide. There is competition within us in the country. Extrapolate a bit, there is big competition for investments in Africa. There is that big competition playing around the world,” he stated.

“So, we need to be desperate for projects that are ongoing to meet efficiency in costs, delivery, and sustainability,” he added.

In response to commendations from NLNG on TotalEnergies’ consistency in gas supply, Bandele revealed that the company had successfully eliminated routine gas flaring over a year ago. He reaffirmed TotalEnergies’ commitment to meeting supply obligations and expanding contributions, particularly with the UBETA gas project, which recently achieved Final Investment Decision (FID).

The session was moderated by Engr. Elisabeth Rogo, Chief Executive of Tsavo Oilfield Services Limited, Kenya. Other panelists included Mr. Akeem Ariyo, Managing Director of AOS Orwell; Osayande Igiehon, Managing Director of Heirs Energies; Nnamdi Anowi, GM Production at NLNG; and Jim Swartz, Chairman & Managing Director of Chevron Nigeria, represented by Mrs. Maureen Ikenedu, General Manager, Wells, Chevron Nigeria.
