TotalEnergies Embraces All Facets of Energy in Nigeria, Pledges Commitment to Renewables

TotalEnergies, a leading international energy company, is solidifying its position as a comprehensive player in the Nigerian energy landscape, actively participating in all segments from upstream exploration to downstream retail. This was the message Dr. Charles Ebereonwu, Country Communication Manager for TotalEnergies in Nigeria, delivered at a recent webinar hosted by the Petroleum Training Institute.

More Than Just Oil: Embracing Diversification and Renewables

Dr. Ebereonwu emphasized TotalEnergies’ unique position as the only International Oil Company (IOC) in Nigeria fully engaged in every aspect of the energy value chain. The company boasts a strong presence in upstream exploration and production, midstream processing and transportation, and downstream retail through its extensive network of service stations.

However, TotalEnergies isn’t simply resting on its laurels in the traditional fossil fuel domain. Recognizing the global shift towards renewable energy, they are actively embracing the transition with their slogan, “More energy, less emission.” This commitment is reflected in their recent name change from Total to TotalEnergies, signifying a broader scope beyond solely fossil fuels.

Leading the Charge in Renewables Integration

Dr. Ebereonwu highlighted several concrete steps TotalEnergies is taking to champion renewable energy in Nigeria. He noted that they are the first IOC in the country to actively invest in solar power, with over 254 of their 540 service stations now operating fully on solar energy. This demonstrates their dedication to reducing their carbon footprint and promoting sustainable energy solutions.

Furthermore, TotalEnergies continues to expand its upstream activities in Nigeria, recently establishing TotalEnergies GRP Ltd, a subsidiary dedicated solely to renewable energy initiatives. Led by a Nigerian Managing Director, this subsidiary underscores TotalEnergies’ commitment to local talent and sustainable development in the country.

A Comprehensive Energy Partner for Nigeria

Dr. Ebereonwu’s message at the webinar paints a clear picture of TotalEnergies’ ambitious vision for Nigeria’s energy future. The company is not just an oil giant; it is a comprehensive energy partner actively embracing the transition to renewables while maintaining a strong presence in traditional sectors. This diversified approach positions TotalEnergies as a key player in shaping a sustainable and secure energy future for Nigeria.
