This notable recognition was announced during the NIES 2024 Gala Dinner & Awards on February 27th, 2024, showcasing TotalEnergies’ steadfast dedication to sustainable practices and continual advancement within Nigeria’s energy sector.
Obi Imemba, TotalEnergies Executive Director, Joint Venture Asset, proudly accepted the award on behalf of Managing Director/Country Chair, Matthieu Bouyer. This accolade symbolizes the energy industry’s acknowledgment of TotalEnergies’ consistent endeavors to offer sustainable energy solutions while mitigating environmental impact.
In alignment with Nigeria’s aspirations, TotalEnergies is committed to delivering “more energy with fewer emissions” on its journey towards achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. This commitment to environmental stewardship is demonstrated through their recent milestone of becoming the first energy company in Nigeria to completely eradicate routine flaring across all exploration and production activities.
Additionally, their collaboration with NNPC Limited incorporates Methane Detection technology for enhanced environmental protection and emission reduction initiatives.
The 7th NIES, themed “Navigating the new energy world order: Security, Transition, and Finance,” shed light on the critical challenges and opportunities facing the global energy landscape.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, represented by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, underscored the theme’s relevance and urgency for Nigeria’s future. He acknowledged the paramount importance of energy security and emphasized the need for technological resilience amidst evolving geopolitical and technological dynamics.
President Tinubu further addressed the rationale behind the government’s decision to remove fuel subsidies, emphasizing the imperative to reassess energy policies for a sustainable and secure future. While acknowledging the associated challenges, he highlighted its necessity for long-term economic growth and development.
The summit also witnessed significant contributions from the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil) Heineken Lokpobiri and his counterpart for Gas, Ekperikpe Ekpo.
They emphasized the crucial need to leverage Nigeria’s resources for economic prosperity and addressed concerns regarding the departure of international oil companies (IOCs) from the country.
