Former Militant Leaders Urge Tinubu to Investigate Pre-Sale of Crude Oil During Buhari’s Tenure

The ex-agitators in the Niger Delta region have called on President Bola Tinubu to investigate allegations that, towards the end of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, crude oil was sold upfront, and the proceeds were misappropriated. This request suggests a call for transparency and accountability in the handling of Nigeria’s oil resources.

The National Secretary of the First Phase Ex-Agitators, Nature Dumale, has called on President Bola Tinubu to investigate allegations that crude oil was sold three years in advance shortly before he assumed leadership. Dumale stated that this practice is believed to be one of the reasons for the foreign exchange crisis and worsening inflation in the country.

He emphasized the need for President Tinubu to probe the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and the oil and gas sector. If no action is taken, Dumale indicated that they would submit a petition to the International Court of Justice. The concerns raised appear to be linked to issues of financial transparency and accountability in the management of Nigeria’s oil resources.

“We are calling on President Tinubu to do the needful because Nigerians are behind him. He needs to set a track record and he needs to do something that Nigerians will remember him for. He needs to call these people to order.

“The allegation is everywhere that former President Buhari sold crude oil three years ahead of time. Was Buhari aware of this? Or was it done by the cabal around him? People are dying every day because of the rising inflation. If nothing is done, we will write to the International Court of Justice because this is the height of injustice against our people.”

Nature Dumale has further urged President Bola Tinubu to reveal the identities of all politicians, corporate organizations, and contractors who are implicated in the forensic audit report of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC). This call suggests a demand for transparency and accountability in the management of funds allocated to the development of the Niger Delta region
