Tinubu inaugurates National Single Window steering committee.
Addressing attendees during the committee’s inauguration on Tuesday in Abuja, Tinubu expressed optimism about the project’s potential, foreseeing it to yield $2.7 billion annually for the country.
He emphasized the importance of Nigeria joining the ranks of countries like Singapore, Korea, Kenya, and Saudi Arabia, which have witnessed substantial improvements in trade efficiency through the adoption of single window systems.
“It is time for Nigeria to join their ranks and reap the reward of a streamlined, decentralized trade process. We cannot afford to lose an estimated $4 billion annually to red tape, bureaucracy, delays, and corruption at our ports,” Tinubu stated.
Tinubu underscored the project’s significance in enhancing regional integration and trade efficiency, positioning it as a pivotal step towards Nigeria’s economic progress.
The members of the national single window steering committee comprise representatives from various key ministries and agencies, including the Ministries of Finance; Marine & Blue Economy; Transportation; and Industry, Trade & Investment. Other members include the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Nigerian Customs Service (NCS), Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA), Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON), Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), and Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC).
