Warns Nigerians not to Expect Grid Stability after Vandalising Installations

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has warned Nigerians that they should not expect a stable electricity grid after vandalising the company’s installations.

The caveat for forgoing a stable grid was contained in the TCN Twitter handle, which noted that the spate of stripping its installations has become worrisome.

According to the company, when the citizens ignore the vandals to perpetuate their crime of plundering its facilities, they should not look forward to grid stability and expansion.

TCN said: “The rate of vandalism of TCN’s installations nationwide is becoming alarming.

We cannot eat our cake and have it. We cannot continue to vandalise power infrastructure or look the other way when such activities are ongoing and expect grid stability and expansion.”

Recall that only last month, it was reported in the media that vandals destroyed a total of 108 power transmission towers between January, last year and last month.

In the period under review, the incidents were recorded in Benin, Abuja, Lagos, Enugu and Kano regions.

Besides, on May 24, 2023, vandals destroyed nine transmission towers of the TCN in Ogun State.

Among the attacks on the TCN towers were the ones credited to the Boko Haram terrorists two years ago in Borno State, which made it apparent that the incidents go beyond theft and accidents to sabotage.
