TCN Boosts Power Supply in Ota Communities with New 132/33kV Transformer
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has significantly improved electricity supply in Ota and surrounding communities by installing and commissioning a state-of-the-art 132/33kV transformer. The new transformer, with a capacity of 60MVA, is expected to enhance power stability in both residential areas and the industrial hub of the region.
This upgrade is part of TCN’s ongoing efforts to modernize transmission infrastructure across Nigeria. Completed on schedule, the project addresses the increasing electricity demands of Ota, a city recognized for its high concentration of industries and manufacturing companies.
The newly commissioned transformer will reduce the load on existing transmission equipment, helping to minimize frequent power outages and voltage fluctuations that have burdened residents and businesses. TCN officials emphasized that the initiative aligns with the Federal Government’s commitment to ensuring reliable power supply to critical economic zones, further supporting industrial and economic growth.
Economic Relief for Businesses
Before the installation, many businesses in Ota relied heavily on alternative energy sources, such as diesel generators, due to unreliable power supply. This led to increased operational costs, particularly for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), stifling growth in the area.
A local manufacturer, expressing optimism, shared with Naija247news, “This development will go a long way in reducing our production costs and improving efficiency. We hope this is a sign of more upgrades to come.”
Support from TCN and the Community
During the commissioning ceremony, TCN officials highlighted the project’s importance in improving the quality of electricity supply and urged electricity distribution companies (DisCos) to ensure efficient delivery of the upgraded power to end-users.
Community leaders and business owners have welcomed the initiative, praising its potential to boost economic activities and elevate living standards.
