Suspected Fraudsters Disguised as Assassins Attempt to Defraud Journalist
…Demand N20 Million as ‘Saving Grace’
In a shocking turn of events, suspected fraudsters posing as assassins have threatened the life of Dimeji Kayode-Adedeji, Founder of Penpushing Media, demanding N20 million to spare him. The criminals, led by an individual identifying himself as Femi Poly, contacted the veteran journalist around 7:30 a.m., claiming they had been contracted to eliminate him but decided to reconsider due to his elderly status.
“We have your photograph. Someone close to you hired us to kill you, but considering your age, we chose to contact you instead. If you can give us N20 million, we will spare your life,” the caller reportedly said.
When pressed for details about their sponsor, the gang—using mobile numbers +2349036869898 and +2348080858130—refused to reveal any information unless the journalist paid the demanded sum. They vaguely hinted that the sponsor was a close associate of Kayode-Adedeji with whom he had unresolved issues.
After the journalist explained he couldn’t afford such an amount, the fraudsters progressively lowered their demand, first to N500,000, then to N150,000, and finally settled for N10,000 as part-payment. They provided an Access Bank account number (0002884692) registered to Aminu Adamu for the transaction.
Kayode-Adedeji has since reported the incident to the police, who have launched an investigation into the matter. Authorities are working to trace the suspects and determine the true intent behind the extortion attempt.
