SPE Nigeria Calls for Tech, Policy and Supply‑Chain Overhaul to Drive Energy Sustainability

ABUJA, April 22, 2025 — The Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Nigeria Council today urged a tripartite push on technology, policy and supply‑chain optimization to drive sustainability across the nation’s oil and gas sector.

Speaking at the Oloibiri Lecture Series and Energy Forum (OLEF 2025) in Abuja, SPE Nigeria Council Chair Engr. Amina Danmadami described the event as “our premier platform for dialogue and innovation” around Nigeria’s hydrocarbon value chain. This year’s theme—“Driving Energy Sustainability Through Technology, Policy, and Supply Chain Excellence”—underscores the urgency of modernizing operations even as the global energy conversation shifts toward renewables.

“The path to sustainability in our context is not one of displacement, but one of optimization,” Engr. Danmadami told delegates, highlighting the potential of AI‑driven maintenance programs, digital‑oilfield technologies and advanced reservoir‑management tools to boost efficiency, lower costs and reduce environmental impact.

On the policy front, she hailed the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) as a landmark reform, and called on operators, investors and regulators to align their strategies with its transparency and governance provisions to bolster market confidence. “Robust policy implementation is the linchpin for attracting the capital and expertise we need,” she said.

Addressing supply‑chain challenges, Engr. Danmadami emphasized local‑content enhancement, procurement integrity and logistics optimization as critical for competitiveness and resilience. “A resilient, well‑integrated supply chain isn’t just good business practice—it’s a strategic asset for national energy security,” she noted.

Since its inception in 1991 to commemorate Nigeria’s first commercial oil discovery at Oloibiri, Bayelsa State, OLEF has become a focal point for charting the country’s energy future. Alongside today’s lectures and panels, SPE Nigeria Council today extended invitations to two upcoming flagship events: the Africa Gas Innovation Summit (June 18–19, 2025, PTDF Tower, Abuja) and the Nigeria Annual International Conference and Exhibition (NAICE), scheduled for August 4–6, 2025, at Eko Hotels & Suites, Lagos.
