SPDC restores Crude Oil Supply to Port Harcourt Refinery, Bolstering Nigeria’s Economy

In line with the Federal Government’s drive to enhance domestic refining capacity and improve product availability in Nigeria, the Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited (SPDC), operating via its Bonny Oil & Gas Terminal (BOGT), has successfully delivered over 475,000 barrels of crude oil to the Port Harcourt Refining Company Limited (PHRC). This resumption of supply, initiated last week after a hiatus of over five years, coincided with the completion of rehabilitation and integrity work on the refinery’s supply pipeline from BOGT.

Dr. Osagie Okunbor, Country Chair of Shell Companies in Nigeria and Managing Director of SPDC, commended the collaborative efforts of BOGT and PHRC teams in ensuring the success of the project. He emphasized the significance of this milestone in Nigeria’s renewed efforts to leverage critical infrastructure for consistent product supply to the domestic market.

Okunbor noted that future supplies from BOGT would be dictated by market demand, reflecting SPDC’s commitment to responsive and sustainable operations.

Bonny Terminal Installation Manager, Osita Nnajiofor, highlighted the meticulous preparation and maintenance activities undertaken prior to resuming product supply to PHRC. These efforts ensured the integrity of pipelines, relevant to NNPC Limited subsidiaries, and the functionality of BOGT refinery export pumps, which had been offline for an extended period. Importantly, these actions were executed with a paramount focus on safety and environmental protection.
