SNEPCo Named Major Oil Company of the Year; Elohor Aiboni Honoured as Amazon of Nigeria’s Oil Sector
Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company (SNEPCo) has been awarded Major Oil Company of the Year by Energy Times in recognition of its outstanding contributions to deep-water oil and gas development in Nigeria. In a double celebration, Energy Times also named Mrs. Elohor Aiboni, former Managing Director of SNEPCo, as the Amazon of Nigeria’s Oil Sector for 2024.
The awards were presented at a high-profile ceremony attended by leading figures in Nigeria’s energy industry. Receiving the honours on behalf of the company and Mrs. Aiboni was Bolanle Odunayo-Ojo, SNEPCo’s Senior Operations Manager, who represented the current Managing Director, Ronald Adams.

“We are honoured by these recognitions, which reflect our commitment to excellence and innovation in the upstream sector,” said Odunayo-Ojo. “These achievements are the result of strong teamwork and the invaluable support of our partners, particularly the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) and our regulators. These awards inspire us to continue driving progress in Nigeria’s energy landscape.”
SNEPCo has been a trailblazer in Nigeria’s offshore oil production since the launch of Bonga, the country’s first deep-water project, in 2005. Gas from Bonga is also a key contributor to the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) plant in Bonny Island. The company’s portfolio includes landmark projects such as Bonga Southwest, discovered in 2001, and Bonga Northwest, which commenced production in 2014.
The Energy Times Board of Directors highlighted Bonga’s continued success, including the production of its 1 billionth barrel of oil in February 2023 and the recent Final Investment Decision on the $5 billion Bonga North development.
