Shell SPDC Unveils Three Additional Host Community Development Trusts
The Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited (SPDC), along with its Joint Venture partners—Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC), TotalEnergies Limited, and Nigerian Agip Oil Company Limited—has unveiled three new projects under its Host Community Development Trusts (HCDTs) initiative. The unveiling event took place on Tuesday, with Rivers State Governor Siminilaye Fubara delivering remarks through the state commissioner for Chieftaincy & Community Affairs, Charles Amadi.
Governor Fubara emphasized that the development of oil-producing communities, as envisioned in the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA), will only be realized if the management of these funds is handled with a commitment to prioritizing community welfare and maintaining accountability.
“The development in oil-producing communities as envisaged in the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) would only become a reality if those charged with managing the funds put the people first and make themselves accountable,” said Governor Fubara.
The newly unveiled HCDTs represent Shell SPDC’s continued effort to foster sustainable development in host communities, ensuring that the benefits of oil extraction extend to local populations through well-managed and impactful projects. This initiative is part of Shell’s broader commitment to corporate social responsibility and community engagement in Nigeria’s oil-rich regions.
The launch event highlighted the collaborative efforts of SPDC and its partners in addressing the needs of their host communities, with a focus on creating long-term positive impacts.
