Shell Awards $1.98 Billion Contracts to Local Nigerian Companies in 2023
Reaffirms Commitment to Nigerian Content at the Practical Nigerian Content Forum
Shell Companies in Nigeria have demonstrated a robust commitment to local content by awarding $1.98 billion in contracts to Nigerian businesses in 2023. This marks a 3% increase from the $1.92 billion recorded in 2022, further solidifying the company’s support for indigenous participation in the oil and gas industry.
Olaposi Fadahunsi, Business Opportunity Manager for SNEPCo’s Bonga South-West Aparo Project, emphasized that many local businesses benefiting from these contracts have significantly expanded their operations, strengthened their expertise, and improved their financial standing.
Fadahunsi applauded the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) for its role in ensuring compliance with the Nigerian Content Act. He also highlighted Shell’s efforts in developing indigenous manpower, particularly through its scholarship initiatives.
“Over 3,772 undergraduate students and 109 Niger Delta postgraduate students have benefited from Shell’s scholarship programs since 2016,” Fadahunsi revealed. “Currently, beneficiaries of the 13th edition of the Niger Delta Postgraduate Scholarship are pursuing their studies in the United Kingdom. With a 98% employability rate, these graduates secure jobs in the oil and gas industry, academia, and IT sectors within a year of completing their studies.”
Beyond contract awards, Shell is driving impactful initiatives under its Human Capital Development Fund. These include the Niger Delta University Learning Center and Digital Library Project, as well as the Federal University of Technology Information Technology Hub.
Shell reiterated its unwavering commitment to Nigerian content as a cornerstone of its operations, fostering local growth and capacity development across the industry.
