Seplat Energy Organises Media Training on Data, Investigative Journalism, others

Seplat Energy Plc, a leading indigenous energy company, has successfully completed the first phase of its comprehensive training programme for journalists and media practitioners in Nigeria. This initial phase saw the participation of thirty-seven (37) energy and judiciary correspondents and editors.

Organized in partnership with Channels Academy, the Seplat Energy media training programme aims to enhance reporting and editing skills while fostering innovation and technological advancement in the media industry. The programme covered core areas of energy and judiciary reporting, with additional focus on the interplay between law and energy, regulatory frameworks, major legal cases, environmental laws, ethical considerations, and media objectivity.

Participants were also trained in investigative reporting techniques, advanced research methods, the use of public records, and interviewing techniques. Other modules included data journalism in judicial and energy reporting, analysis of energy sector developments, and collaborative reporting projects with a focus on developing story ideas. The training also addressed legal challenges in energy reporting, such as understanding defamation, libel, and navigating legal issues, as well as preparing for future industry shifts and emerging trends.

The training programme attracted media professionals from various platforms including print, electronic, and online media.
