Seplat Energy Honored as Oil & Gas Company of the Year by Leadership Newspaper
In a significant nod to its outstanding contributions to the Nigerian energy landscape, Seplat Energy Plc, a prominent independent energy firm with listings on the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) and the London Stock Exchange (LSE), has been bestowed with the prestigious title of Oil & Gas Company of the Year by Leadership Newspaper.
The esteemed recognition was conferred upon Seplat Energy at the prestigious Leadership Annual Conference and Awards held in Abuja. Leadership Group lauded Seplat Energy’s steadfast commitment to combatting routine flaring in its operations, citing the company’s substantial investment of $11.5 million in projects dedicated to ending flaring, coupled with an additional $10.8 million directed towards the installation of gas compression facilities at flow stations in Amukpe, Oben, and Sapele.
The media group underscored Seplat Energy’s pivotal role in bolstering the Nigerian domestic market by supplying processed natural gas, with the company’s processed gas volumes averaging 112.3 million metric standard cubic feet per day (MMscfd). Notably, 30 percent of this gas is utilized for electricity generation within Nigeria, significantly contributing to the nation’s energy mix.
Furthermore, Seplat Energy was commended for its proactive efforts in promoting local economic development, with the company maintaining a predominantly indigenous workforce (98 percent) and actively engaging local business partners to mitigate operating costs and project risks.
The company’s achievement in obtaining the ISO 55001 Asset Management certification was also highlighted, serving as a testament to Seplat Energy’s unwavering dedication to excellence in asset management practices.
Mrs. Zainab Nda-Isaiah, Chairman of the Leadership Group, emphasized the significance of the conference and awards in addressing national challenges and celebrating excellence across various sectors. The keynote address was delivered by Prof. Kingsley Moghalu, a distinguished political economist and former deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
