Seplat Energy CEO to Advocate Gas-Focused Investments at African Energy Week (AEW) 2024
CAPE TOWN, South Africa, April 12, 2024 – Roger Brown, CEO of Seplat Energy, a Nigerian independent oil and gas company, is set to address the prestigious African Energy Week (AEW): Invest in African Energy conference, scheduled for November 4-8. With a commitment to spearheading Nigeria’s energy transition through gas development, Seplat Energy’s engagement will enrich dialogues on sustainable energy growth across Africa.
Seplat Energy’s strategic initiatives include the imminent commencement of operations at the ANOH Gas Processing Plant in Nigeria, a $650 million endeavor expected to double the company’s gas production. The plant, slated for completion by Q3 2024, reached mechanical completion in December 2023. Producing 300 million cubic feet of gas per day (mcf/d), primarily for the domestic market, it supports Nigeria’s shift from diesel-fired power generation. Brown will illuminate the pivotal role of gas in Africa’s energy landscape during AEW: Invest in African Energy, aimed at bolstering investment throughout the energy value chain.
In tandem, Seplat Energy plans upgrades for its Sepele Gas Plant to boost production from 60 mcf/d to 90 mcf/d, meeting export standards while curbing flaring. Operating the Oben Gas Plant in Edo State, the company contributes 35% of Nigeria’s electricity supply, sourced from the Oben-48, Oben-49, and Oben-50 wells.
Beyond gas endeavors, Seplat Energy boasts significant upstream operations, securing regulatory approval for the Sibiri prospect’s Field Development Plan in OML 40 in February 2024. OML 40 also houses the producing Opuama and Gbetiokun fields. Additionally, the company holds interests in OML 53, featuring the Jisike oilfield and the Ohaji South gas and condensate field, part of the ANOH project.
NJ Ayuk, Executive Chairman of the African Energy Chamber, remarked, “The monetization of Africa’s gas resources will play a strategic part in delivering affordable, reliable and sustainable energy for the population. Through its project portfolio and investments, Seplat Energy is laying the foundation for Nigeria’s economy to grow through gas.”
A focal point of AEW: Invest in African Energy is the advancement of African gas projects, recognizing their potential as catalysts for broad-based growth. Brown’s participation in November will deepen discussions on monetizing African gas, aligning with the event’s mandate to eradicate energy poverty by 2030
