Senegal Set to Host Fourth Edition of MSGBC Oil, Gas & Power Conference in December 2024

Expanding upon the success of its three previous editions, the upcoming fourth edition of the MSGBC Oil, Gas & Power Conference & Exhibition is scheduled to take place in Senegal on December 3-4, 2024.

Organized by Energy Capital & Power (ECP), this event serves as a platform for key players in the West African and global energy sector to establish partnerships, finalize agreements, and propel project developments in alignment with energy security and the goals of a just transition.

This announcement follows the conclusion of the MSGBC Oil, Gas & Power 2023 Conference & Exhibition, creating an opportunity for interested companies and partners to express their interest in next year’s event.

With the anticipation of the commencement of oil and gas production at the Sangomar Oilfield Development and the Greater Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) project in 2024, the 2024 conference aims to leverage these successful initiatives to attract new investments in regional energy opportunities.

The region offers substantial prospects for exploration and production (E&P) companies, technology and service providers, as well as investors globally. Given the numerous developments expected in 2024, the conference will delve into the pivotal role that MSGBC energy has played and will continue to play in ensuring global energy security.

The participation of Mohamed Ould Ghazouani, President of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, and other key figures from ministries and energy leaders across Africa in this year’s event underscored not only the favorable landscape in Mauritania but also the abundant opportunities throughout the entire MSGBC basin.

The 2023 conference, with representatives from 16 countries, set the stage for unprecedented collaboration and exploration in the MSGBC’s oil, gas, and power sector, as highlighted by Devi Paulsen-Abbott, CEO of ECP.

Looking ahead to the next year, a diverse range of project developments is on track for construction and production, solidifying the region’s standing as a global energy hub.

Alongside hydrocarbon projects like Sangomar and GTA, Mauritania is gearing up for a 15-block licensing round, Guinea-Conakry and The Gambia are promoting untapped oil and gas potential, and projects such as the Sandiara Gas-to-Power facility are set to commence construction.

Simultaneously, the renewable energy sector in the MSGBC region is poised for rapid growth in 2024. Countries like Mauritania and The Gambia are actively seeking investment for billion-dollar projects, while regional counterparts accelerate the development of renewable energy systems.

Notable among these initiatives is the $34 billion green hydrogen project in Mauritania, led by German project developer Conjuncta, UAE-based renewable company Masdar, and Egyptian energy provider Infinity Power.

Significant progress is also being made in The Gambia’s green hydrogen deployment, with deals signed by companies like Swiss renewable firm NEK Umwelttechnik AG and H2 Gambia Limited, a subsidiary of the UK-based HydroGenesis Group.

Guinea-Conakry is advancing in the development of the 300 MW Amaria and 294 MW hydro projects, while solar and wind investments continue across the region. Concurrently, regional countries are actively pursuing regulatory reforms and cross-border infrastructure projects, such as the West Africa Regional Rail Integration initiative, the African Exchanges Linkage Project, and Project Shegas between Senegal and The Gambia.

Efforts to enhance the region’s enabling environment include the implementation of Special Economic Zones, visa harmonization, and the establishment of sovereign funds for green projects to facilitate ease of doing business.
