Sanwo-Olu Lauds CORAN for Advancing Domestic Refining and Building Strategic Energy Partnerships
Lagos State Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu has praised the Crude Oil Refinery Owners Association of Nigeria (CORAN) for its efforts in promoting domestic oil refining and fostering collaborations within the energy sector. Represented by the Commissioner for Energy Resources, Bolaji Ogunleye, the Governor expressed his appreciation during the CORAN summit.
Governor Sanwo-Olu acknowledged the association’s role in advocating for the challenges faced by Nigerian refiners and giving them a unified voice. “I commend CORAN’s dedication to ensuring Nigeria becomes self-sufficient in refining petroleum products. Your contribution to shaping the future of the industry is crucial, and today’s summit highlights your relentless commitment,” he stated.
He emphasized that the summit’s theme, “Making Nigeria a Net Exporter of Petroleum Products,” aligns with the nation’s goal of harnessing its vast oil and gas potential. The Governor stressed that achieving this vision would not only meet local demands but also position Nigeria as a global supplier of refined petroleum products.
Sanwo-Olu also recognized the collective efforts of the government and key stakeholders, including industrialist Aliko Dangote, whose investments in refinery projects reflect the importance of achieving this shared goal. “I am confident that the discussions at this summit will spark innovative ideas, strengthen partnerships, and set a clear path towards making Nigeria a net exporter of petroleum products,” he added.
Highlighting Lagos as Nigeria’s economic hub, the Governor noted the state’s leadership in driving industrial and energy sectors. He emphasized the importance of strategic partnerships between the government and industry stakeholders, especially in expanding the country’s refining capacity to reduce dependence on imported petroleum products. This, he said, would boost job creation, increase foreign exchange earnings, and support economic diversification.
Governor Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed Lagos State’s commitment to supporting CORAN’s vision through initiatives aimed at improving infrastructure, logistics, and the regulatory environment to attract investment in energy and refining. He pointed to the Dangote Refinery in Lagos as a prime example of how strategic investment and collaboration can transform Nigeria’s energy landscape.
“The Dangote Refinery showcases the power of vision, determination, and the right conditions for success. Its impact on Nigeria’s energy sector proves what we can achieve when we come together for a common purpose,” the Governor concluded.
