PTML Customs Aims for One-Hour Cargo Clearance

Lagos, Nigeria – The Port and Terminal Multi-Purpose Services Limited (PTML) Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) is setting a new benchmark in cargo clearance efficiency, aiming to reduce processing time to just one hour. This initiative follows the successful implementation of a two-hour clearance system.

Speaking at the International Customs Day celebration in Lagos, PTML Comptroller Mr. Tenny Daniyan highlighted ongoing efforts to streamline operations, contingent on importers and Customs agents ensuring full transparency and accuracy in their declarations.

“PTML is recognized for its efficiency, security, and prosperity. We’ve successfully implemented a two-hour clearance policy, but we are confident that, with compliance from traders and agents, we can bring this down to one hour,” Daniyan stated.

He stressed that integrity remains key to achieving this goal, adding that agents who demonstrate compliance through the Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) program will benefit from faster cargo release.

“We have identified agents who have consistently adhered to regulations. Those with proven integrity can take delivery of their cargoes within the shortest time possible,” he explained.

However, Daniyan issued a stern warning to importers violating trade regulations, emphasizing that non-compliance will lead to sanctions, including blacklisting. “If you declare your goods properly, we have efficient verification systems in place. Dishonesty will only lead to delays and penalties,” he cautioned.

With this ambitious target, PTML is positioning itself as a leader in customs efficiency, promising a more seamless trade facilitation process for compliant importers and agents.
