Angry indigenes of Diebiri and Batan communities in Warri South West Local Government Area have shut down a flow station in OML 42, operated by the Nigeria Petroleum Development Company, NPDC, a subsidiary of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, (NNPC) over recent appointments made by the Delta State government.

The protesters shut down the flow station on Friday over Governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s appointment into the board of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC).

The protesters allegedly accused the state’s Deputy Governor, Kingsley Otuaro of highjacking DESOPADEC’s appointment slot for his cronies in Gbaramatu Kingdom in disregard to oil production quota.

The people of Diebiri Kingdom claim it is their turn to produce the next member representing Ijaw nation in DESOPADEC.
