Current Poor Power Supply in S/East Beyond our Powers – EEDC
Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) Attributes Poor Power Supply in South-East to Low Energy Generation
The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) has recently come under scrutiny due to the persistent poor power supply experienced across the South-East region of Nigeria. In response to mounting complaints and concerns from consumers, the company has shed light on the underlying causes, highlighting that the situation is largely beyond its control.
According to Mr. Emeka Ezeh, the Head of Corporate Communications at EEDC, the root cause of the inadequate power supply can be traced back to low energy generation levels. This shortage in energy production has resulted in a decrease in power availability not only in the South-East but also nationwide.
Ezeh, speaking at a press briefing held in Enugu, emphasized the challenges faced by the company in ensuring reliable electricity distribution to its customers. He explained that the dwindling power generation capacity has led to a reduction in the daily megawatt hour (MWH) of energy allocated to distribution companies like EEDC.
Consequently, this has put significant strain on the company’s ability to meet the electricity demands of its consumers effectively.
The impact of the low energy generation extends beyond just power availability; it also affects the quality of service provided by EEDC. Frequent power outages, voltage fluctuations, and irregular supply patterns have become commonplace, causing inconvenience and frustration for residents and businesses in the region.
Despite these challenges, EEDC remains committed to addressing the situation and improving the overall power supply infrastructure in the South-East. However, Ezeh appealed to residents to bear with the company as it navigates through these difficulties, emphasizing the need for collective understanding and patience during this period of energy crisis.
