Peter Obi Urges Nigeria to Learn from Tanzania on Power Generation.

Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), has advocated for Nigeria to take cues from Tanzania regarding power generation. Obi made this assertion in a series of posts on his official social media handle on Friday, reacting to reports that Tanzania recently shut down five hydroelectric stations to reduce excess electricity in its national grid.

Expressing his views, Obi emphasized the need for Nigeria to address the longstanding issue of epileptic power supply by emulating Tanzania’s approach to power generation. He highlighted Tanzania’s ability to power its major cities and provide electricity access to rural areas as a significant achievement that Nigeria should strive to replicate.

Obi underscored the importance of competent and committed leadership in driving progress in the power sector. He lamented Nigeria’s inability to provide reliable electricity to its citizens despite being considered the giant of Africa. Comparing Tanzania’s success in expanding electricity access to Nigeria’s challenges, Obi urged the Nigerian government to prioritize reforming and revitalizing the power sector for the nation’s benefit.

“If Tanzania could achieve such a milestone in power generation, then Nigeria can do it even better, with competent and committed leadership. A stable power sector is very critical for the journey to a New Nigeria, to which we remain committed.”

Citing reports from the World Bank and other sources, Obi highlighted Tanzania‘s remarkable progress in increasing electricity access, particularly in rural areas. He stressed the economic implications of Nigeria’s electricity deficit and called for urgent action to improve the situation.

Obi’s remarks underscore the pressing need for Nigeria to address its energy challenges and leverage lessons from other countries like Tanzania to drive progress in the power sector.
