PETAN, NCDMB, NNPC, Others Plan SAIPEC 2024
The 8th edition of the Sub Saharan Africa International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (SAIPEC) will return to the Eko Convention Centre, Lagos, in February 2024.
The conference, which is the first energy, oil and gas event held in partnership with the entire Sub Saharan African petroleum industry, will hold from February 20-22.
Working directly with the Petroleum Technology Association of Nigeria (PETAN) in strategic partnership with the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited, the organisers will draw on their global resources to ensure that the event delivers to the needs of all stakeholders throughout the region.
SAIPEC continues to place its emphasis on the future of the energy, oil and gas industry through Sub Saharan Africa with collaboration at the forefront of its objective and local content at its nucleus.
It annually attracts hundreds of NOCs, IOCs, EPC contractors, service companies, technology providers and the whole oil and gas value chain for engaging and progressive discussions, business transactions and cross border collaboration.
At the 7th edition of the conference, PETAN advocated for an integrated certification for African countries as practised in America, European Union, Britain, among others, especially with the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) now taking shape.
“With AFCFTA, African Union should consider a unified/ integrated African certification/standard as practiced in America, European Union, Britain etc. We should seriously consider eliminating multiple certifications domiciled outside our sphere and the associated huge foreign exchange impact. (An indirect and continued colonial vestige). These institutions outside Africa (supported by their governments) have made our respective standardization agencies confined to just names. The TWF personnel certifications/skill passport is a step in the right direction,” PETAN Chairman, Nicolas Odinuwe had said.
According to Odinuwe, as part of ways to harness and sustain the Sub-Saharan Africa energy market, PETAN has continued to reach out to other regions and bodies for partnerships and support.
“As part of ways to harness and sustain the sub-Sahara energy market, PETAN has continue to reach out to other regions and bodies for partnerships/collaboration and Support: including An African local content business e-platform,(A one stop collation of available opportunities, capacities and capabilities within the sub-Sahara – currently being developed by the local content associations & will be lunched by 3rd quarter 2023) ,Integrated one -skill passport for welding and related practices with TWF, African local content funding (coordinated by NCDMB), PETAN Seal of quality(PSQ) launched few years ago is being expand to be industry inclusive in partnership with NCDMB and relevant stakeholders. Our collaborations have also extended to Uganda, Mozambique, Tanzania, Senegal, Ghana, Angola, Guyana etc.”
On his part, the Executive Secretary of NCDMB, Engr. Simbi Wabote, sought partnership with PETAN to develop and commercialize technological products for the oil and gas industry.
“Let’s partner with you to develop, test, validate or commercialize products or tools that will boost the PETAN’s seal as one of your notable contributions to the oil and gas industry,” Wabote had said.
The NCDMB Boss noted that with its Research and Development Fund, the Board was already making progress in the development and commercialization of gasoline and smoke detector, among others, and called on PETAN to join NCDMB in research and development.
The Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Limited, Mele Kyari, said that in the next 20 years, energy demand in Africa would rise to between 30 and 35 percent, adding that this demand would be driven by increase in population and quest for industrialization on the continent.
Represented by the Executive Vice President (Upstream) NNPC Limited , Adokiye Tombomieye, the NNPC Limited boss stated that oil and gas producers in Africa must capitalize on the advancements that have been made in the industry to meet the continent’s energy demands, guarantee the continent’s energy supply, expand the continent’s economy as well as build sustainable future for billions of people beyond Africa’s shores.
