Speaking at the 29th edition of the Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG), Ademilua said Nigeria has begun the journey and that the country is moving into a new era, which will be gradual.

He said: “Nigeria has begun the journey. We want to move into net zero by 2060. It’s a journey and not a switch. We will ride on what we have to get where we want. We are moving into the new era, which will be gradual.”

Ademilua dismissed the assertion that renewable energy is being sidelined in the country. He said: “I won’t say sideline. I think it’s an emerging economy for us in the country. It’s an emerging narrative in the power industry . I will say that the country is trying to adapt to it right now, and it’s not that it’s sidelined.

“Nigeria has the energy transition plan, and we are riding on the back of gas towards the renewables, and we are finally getting into green hydrogen at the end of our energy transition plan. Looking at the five verticals of the energy transition plan, you will see that renewable energy is critical across the five verticals .
