OTL Event Unites Key Stakeholders to Shape Africa’s Energy Future – Governor Sanwo-Olu

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State commended the 18th Africa Downstream Energy Week in Lagos for bringing together visionary leaders to chart the future of Africa’s downstream energy sector. In his goodwill message delivered by Commissioner for Energy Resources, Biodun Ogunleye, Sanwo-Olu highlighted the event’s theme, “Alliances for Growth,” as both timely and essential for achieving a sustainable and inclusive energy future for Africa.

Sanwo-Olu noted Africa’s pivotal moment in energy transformation, with Lagos State—Nigeria’s economic hub—leading the charge in energy innovation, investment, and sustainability. He emphasized Lagos’s dedication to creating an investor-friendly environment that fosters technological advancements and supports sustainable practices. “Our efforts are paving the way for resilient economic growth,” he stated, citing Lagos’s successful public-private collaborations as key drivers of an accessible and sustainable energy landscape.

Governor Sanwo-Olu urged stakeholders to support frameworks that encourage investment, streamline regulations, and prioritize community-driven energy solutions. He highlighted the state’s initiatives, such as the harnessing of solar energy for street lighting, mini-grid development, and cleaner fuel options for transportation, as examples of proactive steps towards a greener energy future.

While advocating for a balanced energy transition, Sanwo-Olu underscored the importance of traditional energy sources like natural gas, CNG, and LPG as critical elements in achieving energy security. He called upon both private and public sectors, including young entrepreneurs, to collaborate in building an energy ecosystem that benefits all Africans.
