Oilserv Restates Commitment to AKK Gas Pipeline, Delivering Energy Infrastructure

Oilserv Group, a homegrown Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) company, has reiterated it’s commitment  towards completing the primary section of the 614-kilometer Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) gas pipeline by August 2024. This inaugural 304-kilometer segment of the project falls under the management of Oilserv.

During an exclusive interview at the 12th Practical Nigerian Content (PNC) event in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, Engr. Chuka Eze, Managing Director of Frazimex Engineering, a subsidiary of Oilserv, reiterated the company’s dedication to the project.

Acknowledging the project’s complexity, involving 140 rivers, 18 roads, 33 existing pipelines, and two railway crossings, Eze identified security as a challenge. However, he underscored the invaluable support from the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited and the Federal Government.

Eze emphasized the significance of the AKK project in Nigeria’s broader plan for regional gas infrastructure, traversing from Ajaokuta to Kaduna and onwards to Kano. He assured us that Oilserv, backed by the NNPC and the federal government, is well-positioned to meet the promised August 2024 delivery date.

Despite the challenges, Eze expressed confidence in the project’s achievability, citing the deployment of additional resources and government assistance in addressing security concerns.

Participating in a panel discussion on “Opportunities in Decarbonization & Domestic Gas Utilization,” Eze defined decarbonization as reducing or eliminating carbon dioxide emissions.

Commending the Nigerian Gas Flare Commercialization Programme (NGFCP), recently initiated by the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), Eze appreciated its aim to utilize flared gas domestically and reduce carbon emissions.

Eze praised the NGFCP’s dual role in reducing carbon emissions and creating economic value for Nigeria. Amidst the growing focus on renewable energy, he stressed the importance of investing in new technologies, human capacity development, and collaboration among service companies to leverage opportunities in the renewable space.

Highlighting the significance of Research and Development (R&D), Eze underscored the need for Nigeria and local companies to prioritize R&D and foster collaboration between the industry and academia. He believes this will contribute to the nation’s ability to seize opportunities in the journey toward decarbonization across various sectors.

He says, “The main line has been promised to be delivered by August 2024, and we’re working day-by-day to ensure we keep that promise. It’s doable, it’s achievable, and we can deliver that.” He added, “As most of these projects are being executed, you’ll see there’s opportunity in energy (oil and gas), in the transportation system, because this gas can be used to power our transportation system.”
