Nvidia’s AI Chip Delay Could Impact Microsoft, Google, and Meta.

Nvidia’s upcoming artificial intelligence (AI) chips, which have been highly anticipated by major tech companies, could face a delay of three months or more due to design flaws, according to a report by tech publication The Information. This potential setback might affect key customers such as Microsoft, Google, and Meta, all of which have collectively placed orders worth tens of billions of dollars for these advanced chips.

The delay involves Nvidia’s Blackwell chip series, which was unveiled in March as the successor to the Grace Hopper Superchip, the company’s previous flagship AI chip designed to accelerate generative AI applications. The delay could disrupt the plans of these tech giants, who rely heavily on Nvidia’s chips for their AI-driven initiatives.

In response to the report, an Nvidia spokesperson stated via email, “As we’ve stated before, Hopper demand is very strong, broad Blackwell sampling has started, and production is on track to ramp in the second half.” Despite these assurances, The Information reported that Nvidia informed Microsoft and another major cloud service provider this week about the delay in production of its most advanced AI chip within the Blackwell series.

Microsoft declined to comment further, while Meta and Google did not immediately respond to requests for comment. The potential delay comes at a critical time as companies like Microsoft, Google, and Meta continue to invest heavily in AI technologies, with Nvidia’s chips playing a crucial role in their AI infrastructure.
