NSC, terminal operators, agents agree on storage charges

The Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) has successfully resolved disputes over storage charges at the nation’s seaports. In a meeting conducted at the NSC headquarters in Apapa, the Council, along with freight forwarders, have also pledged their support to terminal operators in improving service efficiency at the ports.

The key agreements reached during this meeting include an extension of the number of free days for cargo storage at terminals, increasing it from three days to five days. This change aims to offer shippers more flexibility and reduce associated costs. Additionally, the previously proposed increase in terminal charges has been reduced.

The NSC has also committed to establishing a complaints desk at all of the nation’s seaports, ensuring prompt resolution of disputes.

These resolutions indicate the commitment of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council, terminal operators, freight forwarders, and other relevant stakeholders to promote a harmonious working environment and address legitimate concerns within the industry.
