NNPC Ltd has reinforced its commitment to bolstering local content in Nigeria’s energy sector, aligning with the nation’s sustainable growth objectives.
This declaration was made during the 13th Practical Nigerian Content (PNC) Forum held in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State. Representing the Group Chief Executive Officer, Mallam Mele Kyari, the Executive Vice President, Upstream, Mr. Udobong Ntia, emphasized the forum’s significance as a platform for stakeholders to evaluate progress, exchange best practices, and identify growth opportunities.
Reflecting on the transformative impact of the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development (NOGICD) Act of 2010, Kyari lauded its role in empowering local businesses to compete globally. He noted that initiatives stemming from the PNC Forum have helped address stakeholder concerns while optimizing the benefits of Nigeria’s energy resources.
“We share a responsibility to empower local firms and drive innovation to build a robust oil and gas sector that meets both local and global demands,” Kyari stated. He also underscored the importance of adopting advanced technologies, nurturing local capabilities, and fostering strategic partnerships to secure a sustainable energy future for Nigeria.
The GCEO highlighted the 2024 Presidential Directive on Local Content Compliance Requirements, describing it as a reflection of the Federal Government’s dedication to prioritizing local content in national development.
Themed “Defining the Next Frontier for Nigerian Content Implementation,” this year’s forum underscores the unified objective of advancing local content across the energy sector. Kyari outlined NNPC Ltd’s ongoing efforts, including the restructuring of NNPC Exploration and Production Ltd (NEPL) and the positioning of NNPC Engineering and Technical Company (NETCO) Ltd as a leading engineering firm.
In his closing remarks, Kyari urged participants to engage actively, share insights, and build connections to accelerate Nigeria’s journey towards energy sufficiency. “Together, we can cultivate a vibrant local content ecosystem that benefits all Nigerians,” he concluded.
