NNPC Ltd Launches Free Cancer Screening Campaign for 3,000 Nigerians
NNPC Ltd, through its Corporate Social Responsibility arm, NNPC Foundation, is launching a nationwide free cancer screening campaign targeting 3,000 Nigerians. The campaign, titled “Cancer Awareness and ZSX Screening,” will offer free cancer screenings, health education, workshops, and consultations to empower individuals in recognizing cancer symptoms early and adopting preventive health measures.
In partnership with local health authorities, NNPC Foundation aims to reach individuals in six geo-political zones, establishing screening centers in Kaduna, Rivers, Ondo, Benue, Imo, and Gombe. The screenings will focus on breast, cervical, and prostate cancers, which are among the most common cancers affecting Nigerians.
According to NNPC Foundation’s Managing Director, Mrs. Emmanuella Arukwe, “This campaign is about more than just screening; it’s about saving lives, building awareness, and creating pathways to preventive care for Nigerians who need it most. Early detection is crucial to improving survival rates, and this campaign is a vital step towards that goal.”
Cancer remains a major health challenge in Nigeria, claiming over 79,000 lives annually. The NNPC Foundation’s campaign seeks to combat the high rate of late-stage diagnoses, often caused by limited access to screening facilities and cultural stigmas. Following a successful screening event in Abuja earlier in 2024, where over 200 residents received cancer screenings, NNPC Foundation is expanding its mission to promote health equity and improve well-being across Nigeria.
