NNPC Ltd. clarifies Lagos depot fire incident
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd. (NNPC Ltd) has moved to allay concerns regarding petroleum product supply and distribution following a fire incident at a depot in Lagos. Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Mr. Olufemi Soneye, emphasized in a statement issued on Friday in Lagos that the incident would not disrupt the country’s fuel supply.
Soneye clarified that the fire outbreak occurred at a tank farm belonging to HOGL Energy Ltd. (Honeywell Depot), not at an NNPC Retail Ltd. facility as initially reported. He attributed the fire to a spillage of petroleum products within the tank farm’s perimeter, which has since been extinguished.
Assuring normalcy, Soneye disclosed that NNPC and other depots in the vicinity have resumed loading activities without delay.
Similarly, Mrs. Grace Aderemi-John, Corporate Communication Officer at HOGL Energy Ltd. (HOGL), confirmed the successful extinguishing of the fire incident at the company’s energy terminal. The fire, which ignited during routine maintenance of its Petroleum Motor Spirit cargo pipeline around 11:10 a.m., was swiftly contained by collaborative efforts involving the company’s facilities unit, the Lagos State Fire Service, and local stakeholders, ending by 1:45 p.m.
