NNPC Launches Vision First Programme in Ilaje Community, Lagos

NNPC Ltd has launched the third edition of its Vision First Programme, a community-focused healthcare outreach initiative, in the Ilaje community of Bariga, Lagos State. This program, part of a broader commitment by NNPC Ltd and its partner, Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company (SNEPCo), under a Production Sharing Contract (PSC), aims to enhance the health and well-being of host communities.

The Vision First Programme offers free eye care services to over 1,000 individuals in the Ilaje community, along with a range of other healthcare services. These services include cardiovascular screenings, BMI assessments, laboratory services, consultations, treatments for mild and chronic diseases, and the distribution of insecticide-treated nets.

Since the programme’s inception, it has significantly impacted numerous individuals, providing free eye care to over 1,853 people. The Lagos edition, which began in 2022, has screened 2,000 people, distributed 1,199 prescription glasses, administered medication to 1,310 beneficiaries, and facilitated successful eye procedures for 189 individuals.

Mr. Bala Wunti, the Chief Upstream Investment Officer of NNPC Upstream Investment Management Services (CUIO – NUIMS), emphasized the program’s importance, noting that it reflects NNPC Ltd’s commitment to restoring hope and improving lives within its host communities. Represented by Mrs. Bunmi Lawson, Wunti stated, “Through this programme, we aim to ensure that preventable vision challenges do not hold anyone back. By providing eye screenings, corrective lenses, surgeries, and general healthcare, we’re dedicated to bringing clarity and brighter futures to those who need it most.”

The initiative aligns with the broader goals of the Mallam Mele Kyari-led management at NNPC Ltd, which seeks to make a positive impact in host communities and enhance the quality of life for Nigerians through sustainable partnerships. The outreach also emphasized the importance of proactive health management, encouraging attendees to protect their vision with regular check-ups, a balanced diet, and adequate rest.

The Vision First Programme not only exemplifies NNPC Ltd’s commitment to community service but also underscores the company’s dedication to investing in social initiatives that leave a lasting positive impact on the communities where it operates.
