NNPC Launches Production Monitoring Command Centre to Boost Oil Production
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited has launched a new initiative, the Production Monitoring Command Centre (PMCC), designed to enhance production efficiency in the country’s hydrocarbon operations.
In a statement released on Wednesday, NNPC spokesperson Olufemi Soneye explained that the PMCC, driven by NNPC’s Upstream Investment Management Services (NUIMS), builds on the success of the company’s existing command and control centre. The initiative aims to improve monitoring, operational efficiency, and production across the sector.
The NNPC said the PMCC aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s policy to increase efficiency and stimulate production in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry. The centre will act as a unified platform to monitor the entire hydrocarbon production chain, from extraction to export terminals, covering Joint Ventures (JVs) and Production Sharing Contracts (PSCs).
By consolidating real-time data from various operators, the PMCC provides a comprehensive overview of production activities, enabling NNPC to swiftly identify any anomalies, minimize unplanned disruptions, and ensure smooth operational continuity.
With advanced analytics and integrated data, the PMCC empowers stakeholders with actionable insights for proactive decision-making, enhancing planning, resource allocation, and risk management. This, according to NNPC, will help operators meet production targets more efficiently and maintain high operational standards.
A key feature of the PMCC is its predictive and preventive maintenance capabilities. The centre will monitor equipment performance and coordinate maintenance efforts to ensure the reliability and longevity of critical assets, reducing downtime and optimizing operations.
The PMCC also facilitates collaboration among stakeholders by providing a secure platform for data exchange and communication, fostering problem-solving and continuous improvement throughout the sector.
NNPC emphasized that the centre’s role in minimizing downtime and enhancing maintenance is expected to significantly increase production levels and revenue generation. Under the leadership of Mele Kyari, NNPC has already ramped up production to 1.8 million barrels per day (bpd) and is targeting 2 million bpd. The PMCC is seen as a vital tool in achieving this goal.

NNPC stated that the new initiative reflects the company’s commitment to innovation and excellence as it continues its modernization efforts. The PMCC, the company said, not only supports national objectives but also strengthens Nigeria’s position in the global energy market, ensuring sustainable growth and profitability for stakeholders.
