NNPC-CNL Joint Venture Achieves Success with Meji NW-1 Well Drilling
Western Niger Delta, Nigeria – The NNPC Limited – Chevron Nigeria Limited Joint Venture (NNPC-CNL JV) has announced a significant near-field discovery following the successful drilling of the Meji NW-1 well in Petroleum Mining Lease (PML) 49, situated in the shallow offshore region of the Western Niger Delta. The area has recently been transitioned to the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) 2021 terms.
The drilling operation for the Meji NW-1 well began on September 2, 2024, and reached a total depth of 8,983 feet on September 13, 2024. The well encountered approximately 690 feet of hydrocarbon-bearing Miocene sands, effectively appraising an extension of the existing Meji field. Well operations concluded, and the drilling rig vacated the location on October 2, 2024.
This discovery aligns with Chevron Nigeria Limited’s commitment to further develop Nigeria’s oil resources, both in onshore and shallow water areas. It also complements Chevron’s global exploration strategy of locating new resources that can extend the life of existing assets while ensuring quicker development timelines.
The NNPC-CNL JV remains dedicated to working closely with the Nigerian government and other stakeholders to support the continued development of Nigeria’s oil and gas industry, contributing positively to the country’s economy.
