NMDPRA Encourages Operators, Businesses to take Advantage of Opportunities in Gas Value Chain
The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has encouraged operators and businesses to take advantage of the opportunities in the gas value chain for sustainable business growth.
The authority’s chief executive, Farouk Ahmed, stated this recently in Lagos at a one-day event tagged, ‘South-West Stakeholders Engagement on Gas Utilisation in Nigeria.’
Represented by the Executive Director, Distribution Systems, Storage and Retailing Infrastructure, NMDPRA, Ogbuko Ukoha, Ahmed said the essence of the event was to Sensitize end-users on the comparative advantages between different fuels.
“This epoch-making engagement seeks to encourage large consumers of petroleum products to not only operate within the regulatory space but also to become aware of the comparative advantages between the different fuels particularly gas which has been designated as Nigeria’s transition fuel,” Ahmed said.
On the efforts of the federal government at deepening domestic utilisation of gas, he listed the National Gas Expansion Programme, Decade of Gas Programme, and the Petroleum Industry Act (2021), as some of the key initiatives of the government.
In August 2022, the Federal Government inaugurated the Governing Council of Midstream and Downstream Gas Infrastructure Fund (MDGIF). The fund according to Ahmed, is meant to catalyse gas investment.
