NMDPRA Debunks Reports of Gas Supply Directive to GenCos
The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has refuted claims made in a recent news publication alleging that it issued directives to halt gas supply to power-generating companies (GenCos) due to payment failures.
In a statement, the NMDPRA categorically dismissed the report as false and without basis, emphasizing that no such directive was issued during its recent stakeholders’ engagement in Lagos. The engagement, attended by representatives from the Oil Producers Trade Section (OPTS), Independent Petroleum Producers Group (IPPG), and other industry stakeholders, focused on creating awareness about the implementation of wholesale supply licenses under the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) 2021.
The event, which followed an earlier session held at the NMDPRA corporate headquarters in Abuja on November 27, 2024, was aimed at educating stakeholders about the opportunities and benefits associated with the PIA provisions, particularly sections 142 and 197.
Reassuring the public, the NMDPRA affirmed its commitment to maintaining seamless gas and petroleum product supply and distribution. “At no time was the alleged directive made at any event or otherwise,” the Authority stated, urging the public to disregard the misleading report.
