NLNG Vows Continued Benefits for Nigerians with Train 7 Project Progress
Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG) has reiterated its unwavering commitment to delivering significant economic benefits to Nigerians through the ongoing Train 7 project on Bonny Island. Company officials recently addressed the reconvened session of the Senate-House of Representatives’ Joint Committee on Gas (the Committee).
During the session, NLNG representatives provided comprehensive information and clarifications to address any questions or concerns raised by the Committee.
The update highlighted the project’s impressive progress, with a total contract value of $4.3 billion and a remarkable 67% completion rate. This progress is further underscored by the achievement of over 45 million man-hours without a single Lost Time Injury (LTI) – a testament to the project’s commitment to safety.
NLNG pointed out that the Train 7 project is already delivering tangible benefits. Over 9,000 Nigerians are directly employed on the project on Bonny Island, contributing to the local economy. Additionally, the construction has spurred the creation and growth of numerous indirect jobs and businesses in the surrounding area.
Looking beyond immediate benefits, NLNG emphasized the project’s strategic importance for Nigeria’s future. Train 7 is envisioned as a critical driver for diversifying the nation’s revenue sources. It is also positioned to play a key role in securing revenue generation during the ongoing energy transition. Ultimately, the project aims to contribute to Nigeria’s ambitious goal of achieving a net-zero emissions future.
NLNG representatives further emphasized the project’s crucial role in unlocking Nigeria’s vast gas reserves, estimated at over 200 trillion cubic feet (tcf) of proven reserves. Train 7 serves as a model and inspiration for other gas development initiatives across the country. These initiatives aim to enhance gas monetization and utilization, maximizing the potential of this valuable natural resource.
