NIMASA Warns Public Against Fake Social Media Accounts
The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has issued a warning to the public regarding the proliferation of fake social media accounts falsely claiming affiliation with the agency. Dr. Dayo Mobereola, the Director-General of NIMASA, raised the alarm on Monday through his verified X handle, advising individuals to be cautious and avoid engaging with these fraudulent accounts.
Dr. Mobereola emphasized that these fake accounts are not associated with him or NIMASA and have not been endorsed by the agency. He urged the public to communicate only through NIMASA’s official social media platforms to avoid falling victim to scams.
“For the avoidance of doubt, any party that presents itself as acting on behalf of NIMASA or any member of the agency’s executive management is false,” Mobereola stated. “NIMASA disclaims any responsibility for their actions.”

The Director-General advised the public to treat any such claims with suspicion and to verify the authenticity of communications purportedly from NIMASA before taking any action. He further encouraged reporting any suspicious activities to the agency via the email address [email protected] or to the appropriate law enforcement agencies.
“NIMASA has not authorized any entity or individual to act on its behalf,” Mobereola reiterated, disavowing any liability for losses incurred by those who rely on fraudulent accounts or online publications posing as representatives of the agency.
The agency continues to prioritize the security and trust of the public, urging vigilance against cyber fraud and maintaining communication only through verified and official channels.
