Nigeria’s power grid collapsed twice last month as the quantum of electricity generated kept wobbling between 2,100 megawatts and 4,500MW.
Data obtained from the Federal Ministry of Power, Works and Housing on Friday in Abuja showed that the grid collapse had persisted despite efforts by the Transmission company of Nigeria to ensure its stability.
Findings showed that in September this year, two grid collapses were recorded as the country’s power system dropped from a high of 2,760.9MW on September 3 to as low as 81MW on September 4. It picked up on September 5 to 2,921.6MW and but collapsed again to 168MW on September 20.
It had earlier been reported that the frequency in the collapse of Nigeria’s electricity grid witnessed a 57.14 percent decrease in the second quarter of 2018 when compared to what was recorded in the first quarter of this year.
An analysis of the performance of the grid in the second quarter of 2018 showed some improvement in stability as against what was witnessed in the previous quarter. The grid collapsed seven times in the first quarter of 2018 but this reduced to three in the second quarter.
