Nigerian Navy Deploys Eight Warships to Combat Sea Piracy in Gulf of Guinea.
According to Rear Adm. Olusegun Ferreira, representing Vice Adm. Ogalla, the deployment includes eight warships, two helicopters, and the naval Special Boat Service (special forces), marking a significant commitment to maritime security. Exercise ‘Obangame Express 2024,’ sponsored by the United States African Command (US Africom), aims to bring together naval fleets from the GoG and key partners from Europe and North America to enhance regional security.
The exercise will focus on a range of maritime security operations, including anti-crude oil theft, anti-sea piracy, anti-sea robbery, anti-fishing, as well as boarding and aerial operations. Vice Adm. Ogalla emphasized that the collaboration with GoG nations is crucial for securing the maritime environment and fostering economic activities in the region.
