NGA Commends Shell Nigeria for Its Contributions to the Country’s Gas Development.
NGA President Mr. Akachukwu Nwokedi expressed this admiration in a statement issued in Lagos during a courtesy visit by the NGA’s Executive Council members to SPDC. Nwokedi highlighted the commendable collaboration between Okunbor, SPDC, and the NGA, which has played a crucial role in advocating for and developing key industry policies and regulations essential for the growth of Nigeria’s gas sector.
Nwokedi applauded Okunbor and SPDC for their consistent support and active involvement in initiatives aimed at commercializing Nigeria’s vast gas reserves. He noted that the collaboration had significantly influenced the development and implementation of critical policies, including the Gas Master Plan, the Domestic Gas Pricing Framework, the Nigerian Gas Transportation Network Code, and the Gas Expansion Programme. Additionally, their input into the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) 2021 has prioritized and incentivized investment in Nigerian gas.
According to Nwokedi, the NGA, with the active support of key stakeholders, has coordinated significant gas industry initiatives and the Decade of Gas Secretariat, which has been instrumental in advancing the Decade of Gas initiative to reshape the future of Nigeria’s gas sector.
Nwokedi reiterated the NGA’s commitment to becoming a leading resource center for the industry, promoting investment opportunities in Nigeria’s gas sector through global advocacy and targeted industry events. He also emphasized the association’s aim to increase Nigerian participation across the gas value chain and enhance its strategic focus by re-launching its Advisory Group to promote sound gas policy formulation among regulatory stakeholders.

In response, Okunbor appreciated the NGA’s unwavering focus on critical industry issues and noted that the association has consistently served as a disciplined platform for gas advocacy. He reaffirmed Shell’s commitment to supporting the NGA in unlocking the vast potential of gas in Nigeria.
