NESG: Mrs. Bukola Adubi Advocates for Nigeria to Tap into Economic Potential for Industrial Growth
Abuja, Nigeria – At the 30th Nigerian Economic Summit, Mrs. Bukola Adubi, CEO of MicCom Cables and Wires, called on Nigeria to harness its vast economic potential to fuel industrial growth and transformation. Speaking at the event themed “Collaborative Action for Growth, Competitiveness, and Stability,” Adubi emphasized the need to tackle the country’s economic challenges directly.
Moderating a high-profile CEO Roundtable, Adubi was joined by prominent industry leaders, including Mr. Tola Adeyemi, CEO of KPMG West Africa; Mr. Farouk Gumel, Vice Chairman of Tropical General Investment (TGI) Group; and Ms. Winifred Isichei, CEO of Bonita Foods. The discussion, titled “The Path to Rapid Industrialisation,” explored strategies for strengthening Nigeria’s industrial sector and the collaborative actions necessary for sustainable growth.
Adubi highlighted the importance of recognizing Nigeria’s achievements and fostering confidence in local capabilities, emphasizing that leveraging the country’s strengths could have a significant impact. “One critical takeaway from the discussions was the need for us as a country to celebrate our successes, trust in our abilities, and capitalize on our strengths. By doing so, we can ignite a multiplier effect that will propel Nigeria to become the industrial powerhouse of the continent,” she remarked.
She also stressed the urgency of investing in skills development, particularly in technical and vocational education, as a crucial step towards overcoming barriers to Nigeria’s industrialization.
In her closing remarks, Adubi expressed deep pride in Nigeria’s potential, calling for continuous efforts to position the nation as a leader in Africa’s industrial landscape.
MicCom Cables & Wires Ltd, founded in 1978 as Nigeria’s first indigenous cable manufacturing company, has thrived under Adubi’s leadership, becoming a major supplier of high-quality cables and wires to both local and international markets, with a substantial presence in West Africa.
Beyond her role at MicCom, Adubi is also the President of the Cable Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (CAMAN) and a passionate advocate for the manufacturing sector as a catalyst for Nigeria’s economic progress. “A thriving manufacturing sector not only creates jobs but also drives infrastructural development and improves living standards in local communities. It is also instrumental in boosting intra-African trade,” she noted in a recent interview.
