NERC Strengthens Disco Capacity with Training on Electricity Tariff Framework
Abuja, Nigeria – April 19, 2025 — In a strategic move to improve transparency and efficiency in Nigeria’s power sector, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has launched a specialized training program for electricity distribution companies (Discos) on the Multi Year Tariff Order (MYTO).
The training, which began with sessions for Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) and Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC), is aimed at equipping operators with a deeper understanding of the MYTO methodology—a key framework for calculating electricity tariffs.
Speaking at the opening session, Mr. Abba Terab, Deputy General Manager of Market Competition and Rates at NERC, said the initiative reflects the commission’s commitment to regulatory clarity and market stability.
“This training is an opportunity to sharpen your skills in tariff modeling, cost analysis, and consumer pricing,” said Terab. “We want operators to make better-informed decisions that translate into improved service for consumers.”
He also noted that the program offers a forum for stakeholder feedback that could enrich future MYTO reviews, ensuring alignment with market conditions, consumer realities, and policy goals.
Participants expressed optimism that the training would help enhance customer satisfaction, operational planning, and financial sustainability across the electricity distribution landscape.
NERC reaffirmed its pledge to continue collaborating with Discos and other stakeholders in building a transparent, accountable, and consumer-focused electricity market.
