NERC Schedules October 24 Public Hearing on Grid Collapse Issues
The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has announced an investigative public hearing on October 24 to address frequent grid collapses affecting the country. According to a notice on its X handle (formerly Twitter), the hearing will take place at NERC’s Hearing Room, Fourth Floor, Plot 1387, Cadastral Zone, Central Business District, Abuja.
The Commission has invited stakeholders, including Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and the general public, to participate in the hearing. This is in line with Section 48, subsection 1 of the Electricity Act 2023 (Amended), which mandates NERC to hold public hearings on significant issues affecting the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI).
NERC expressed concern over the increasing instances of grid disturbances that have caused widespread outages across several states. These disruptions have threatened the progress made in improving grid stability and reducing infrastructure deficits.
