NERC Holds Petition Hearing by MAN on Electricity Tariffs”

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) is currently conducting a pivotal petition hearing prompted by the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) regarding the recent adjustments in electricity tariffs. MAN, in a formal letter to NERC, requested a rollback or an indefinite suspension of the implementation of the new electricity tariff rates outlined in the supplementary multi-year tariff order issued on April 3rd, 2024.

Taking place at the NERC headquarters in Abuja, the petition hearing features MAN’s Director General, Segun Ajayi-Kadir, articulating the rationale behind their petition for tariff revision. Concurrently, intervenors, including representatives from power firms and power sector experts, are presenting their perspectives on the economic landscape against which the tariff adjustments were formulated.

Dr. Musiliu Oseni, NERC’s Vice Chairman and Chairman of the petition hearing team, emphasized that both MAN’s submissions and those from the intervenors are under careful consideration. Oseni further disclosed that NERC will render a verdict on the petition within a 30-day timeframe, with an additional 15-day extension if necessary, based on the arguments presented by MAN and the intervenors.
