NEITI, Orderpaper Launch Rembinar Series on Tax Bill, Climate Change, and Energy Transition

The Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI), in partnership with Orderpaper, a parliamentary monitoring organization, is set to launch the Rembinar Dialogue Series — a virtual platform aimed at fostering in-depth discussions on transparency, accountability, and natural resource governance in Nigeria’s extractive sector.

Announcing the initiative at the NEITI House in Abuja, the Executive Secretary of NEITI, Dr. Orji Ogbonnaya Orji, described the Rembinar Dialogue Series as a dynamic initiative that will address critical issues such as the tax bill, climate change, and energy transition. The series is part of NEITI’s efforts to promote transparency and accountability in the nation’s resource governance framework.

The Rembinar initiative is an extension of RemTrack, a digital platform developed by OrderPaper to monitor remedial issues identified in NEITI’s industry reports. It aims to enhance public engagement and improve transparency, accountability, and policy performance tracking across the petroleum, mining, and renewable energy sectors.

Dr. Orji emphasized the significance of the collaboration, noting that the series comes at a pivotal time when Nigeria is undergoing extensive tax and fiscal reforms. He stated that NEITI is leveraging the Rembinar platform to engage stakeholders on the interconnectedness between extractive industries, energy transition, fiscal policies, and public finance management.

The Executive Director of OrderPaper, Mr. Oke Epia, expressed gratitude for NEITI’s partnership and encouraged stakeholders to actively participate in the initiative. He highlighted that the Rembinar Series aligns with OrderPaper’s mandate to bridge the gap between parliament, policy, and citizens using data and technology.

The inaugural episode, titled “Tax Bills and the Implications for NEITI Audits,” is scheduled for March 3, 2025, at 11:00 AM. The virtual event will convene policymakers, government agencies, industry experts, and civil society stakeholders to examine the impact of tax reform bills on NEITI’s audit processes, compliance mechanisms, and revenue transparency across the oil, gas, and solid minerals sectors.

Distinguished speakers for the session include Dr. Orji Ogbonnaya Orji, Executive Secretary of NEITI, and Dr. Mike Uzoigwe, a policy expert on natural resource governance. The session will be moderated by Mrs. Obiageli Onuorah, NEITI’s Director of Communications and Stakeholders Management.

Key issues to be addressed during the dialogue include:

  • Overview of current tax reforms and their impact on NEITI audits
  • Alignment of tax policies with NEITI’s mandate for financial transparency and accountability
  • Implications of tax reforms on compliance and reporting accuracy in the extractive sector
  • Challenges and opportunities in implementing new tax policies
  • Strategies for enhancing transparency and accountability through taxation reforms
