NEITI Applauds PWYP’s 9-Point Agenda, Strengthens Partnership

The Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI) has expressed optimism over the newly unveiled 9-point agenda by the leadership of Publish What You Pay (PWYP) Nigeria, a prominent civil society organization. The two organizations have pledged to reinforce their collaboration to enhance the implementation of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) in Nigeria.

This commitment was made during a courtesy visit by PWYP’s leadership to NEITI’s headquarters in Wuye District, Abuja. The meeting was attended by NEITI’s Executive Secretary and National Coordinator of EITI Nigeria, Dr. Orji Ogbonnaya Orji, and PWYP Nigeria’s National Coordinator, Dr. Erisa Danladi, who also serves as the Civil Society Representative on the NEITI Board.

Dr. Orji commended PWYP’s historical role in the global emergence of the EITI framework, emphasizing the organization’s multi-stakeholder approach. He lauded PWYP’s new leadership for their dedication to constructive engagement and their comprehensive agenda aimed at advancing transparency in Nigeria’s extractive sector.

The 9-point agenda, unveiled during PWYP’s Annual General Meeting in October 2024, covers key areas such as Anti-Corruption, Just Energy Transition, Contract Transparency, Beneficial Ownership Transparency, Gender & Social Justice, Fiscal Openness, Environmental Justice, Safe Civic Space, and Community Beneficiation.

“These thematic areas align closely with NEITI’s mandate, Nigeria’s national work plan, and the global EITI standards,” Dr. Orji stated, highlighting how the agenda will bolster NEITI’s efforts to drive impactful reforms in the extractive industry.

Dr. Erisa Danladi reaffirmed PWYP’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with NEITI, emphasizing the expansion of PWYP’s membership to 164 organizations across Nigeria. She also outlined the organization’s plan to integrate its gender-inclusive policy into the National Women & Gender Policy, championed by the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs.
