NDDC Equips 200 Niger Delta Youths with Welding Skills, Boosts Job Opportunities
The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has empowered 200 youths from across the region with valuable welding and fabrication skills, opening doors to potential careers in the critical oil and gas, construction, and manufacturing sectors.
Marking the graduation ceremony in Port Harcourt, NDDC Managing Director Dr. Samuel Ogbuku emphasized the program’s aim to equip participants with the knowledge and expertise needed to excel in the field and unlock new opportunities. He noted that similar ceremonies were held simultaneously in Eket, Akwa Ibom; Warri, Delta; and Benin, Edo, reflecting the program’s broad reach within the Niger Delta.
Empowering Youths for Oil & Gas Participation:
Dr. Ogbuku highlighted the crucial role of the region’s youth in the nation’s oil and gas industry, acknowledging the vast oil resources extracted from the Niger Delta. He stressed the importance of equipping them with necessary skills to compete effectively within this vital sector.
Addressing Skill Gap for Regional Development:
The NDDC Chief Executive Officer pointed to the Commission’s Regional Development Master Plan, identifying capacity building and human resources development as key strategies to address the historical neglect of the Niger Delta. He sees skills development as an essential currency for individual success and a tool for driving legal migration opportunities.
Equipping with Tools and Resources:
NDDC’s commitment extends beyond training. Each graduate received a starter pack comprising a welding machine, grinding machine, tool box, and a cash grant of N100,000 to support setting up their own businesses. This comprehensive approach aims to empower the graduates to actively engage in the economy and contribute to the region’s development.
